Making the website.
After 18 years as a freelancer I thought it time I had a web presence. This led me to a great DIY project which although time consuming for a rookie web designer turned out to be a fun and satisfying task.
One word... well two really SQUARESPACE! This online design website has fantastic templates to work from... stylish, simple and very easy to navigate your way through your first build. Then to keep things simple for $8 a month they will host and maintain your site. No need to buy a domain name prior as these guys include one in your monthly subscription....only trap is you can't get a .com.au from them. You can however register one of those if you choose here in OZ for $20 roughly for two years and link it to your Squarespace site. A good tip here.... make sure you keep an eye out for and pay your renewal after the initial two years or you site will drop off the web, or opt for auto-renewal. I use Crazy Domains.
If you need a little help with the build you can do what I did and use Jake Jorgovan's tutorials on skillshare.com . He has hours of simple to follow classes and will walk you gently through the process.
I plan to blog on a regular basis about my current projects, equipment reviews and any gear tips I can share ... which is what's great about this business, there is always a new skill to gain or a new piece of kit to master. I never grow tired of that.
Be kind to each other and encourage.
